St. Andrew's Church, Gibraltar

Our Minister

Hello, I am Rev Ewen Maclean and I would like to welcome you to our church website. As the minister of St Andrew's Church of Scotland, Gibraltar I would be happy to meet with you at any time.

Being originally from the far flung Western Isles of Scotland, I think it is fair to describe me as far travelled. I moved to Glasgow to study for a BA in Social Sciences and then I studied for my BD at Glasgow University. More recently I undertook a part time PG Diploma in Biblical Preaching. Sometime in the future I would hope to complete my studies and gain an MTh.

Before coming to Gibraltar I spent 15 very happy and fulfilling years in the Glasgow City centre charge of The Martyrs' : Townhead. During that time I also enjoyed being the Church of Scotland chaplain to Glasgow Caledonian University.

Having moved to Gibraltar with my wife Audrey and two sons in June 2009, we are now very settled here. Audrey works as an Occupational Health Nurse with the MoD and the boys are in a great school (St Josephs).

It is my firm conviction that God has revealed Himself to us through the Bible and I regard the preaching and teaching of God's Word as my prime responsibility. I set myself high standards, to which according to my wife I seldom attain ! joke. I believe that if we manage to make God's revelation boring and irrelevant, we do him a great disservice. To discover that God has indeed poured out His love on us through Jesus Christ is the greatest experience available to humanity, and to be able to share that love is a great privilidge.
I have a wide range of hobbies which include football, football and football. I also like cars, DIY and business and economics.

As I look ahead to my time in Gibraltar, my hope is get the Christianity Explored course established at St Andrews's. Also we are going to start a lunch time service on a Wednesday so that people can take some time away from their busy schedules and have a time of worship and reflection.

Leaving Glasgow was more painful than I ever imagined it would be, but now that we are here, all I can say is that Gibraltar is the best place in the world to live.

With much affection,

Rev Ewen Maclean.
