Programme of events which took place in 2004, the 150th anniversary year of St Andrew’s Church Gibraltar.

| October
24th-30th a Flower Festival and Exhibition was held in St Andrews
Church and was open to the public during the day. Flower arrangements
on biblical and church themes were sponsored, and many of the churches
historical artifacts were on exhibition. Local schools took the opportunity
to visit and learn more about this part of Christian heritage. |

| The October week began on Sunday October 24th at 6pm with an Ecumenical Songs of Praise service held in the church. The Gibraltar National Choir led the singing and the hymns were introduced by Sally Magnusson, presenter of BBC Songs of Praise and author of the recent book "Glorious Things: hymns of my life". The service was televised by GBC and was shown on TV in Gibraltar on Sunday 14th November. | ||
Other main events of the anniversary year took place at the Whitsun weekend (May 28-31st ) during which a commemorative cover was issued by the Philatelic Bureau in Gibraltar. These are still available and on sale at the church. A Scotland – Gibraltar Dinner was held in the Queensway Club Halls with Music by the Rooke Volunteer Band including Scottish dances. An Ecumenical service with representatives of the Gibraltar churches was held in St Andrews Church, which gave the other participating churches the opportunity to convey their greetings to St Andrews. The preacher was Rt. Rev.Charles Caruana, Bishop of Gibraltar. |

| On Sunday May 30th at 1030am , Pentecost Sunday, 150 years to the day since the building opened for worship, the Anniversary service took place at which the preacher was the Very Rev. Dr. John B. Cairns, past Moderator of the General Assembly and former Convener, Committee on Chaplains to HM Forces. The service will be televised by GBC, and be followed by a reception in the Garrison Library. | ||
| HRH the Princess Royal visited St Andrew's on Tuesday 29th June as part of her visit here during Gibraltar’s Tercentenary Year. The Princess Royal is Colonel in Chief of the Royal Scots. During her visit HRH met members of the Kirk Session and congregation of St Andrew’s and was accompanied by her husband Rear Admiral Tim Laurence. Revd. Stewart Lamont said the church was honoured to be part of the Princess’ programme. “We know of her affection for the Kirk and Scottish institutions and her presence set the seal on what has already been a marvellous month of celebration.” |

A CD-ROM containing the church archive of Births, marriages and Deaths from 1840 to the year 2000 has been produced through the grant from the John Mackintosh Educational Trust. It includes software with which you can search for your ancestors, and print off the original handwritten entry. An archive of “Temperance Pledges” made by serving soldiers in the 19thCentury is included, plus photographs of the interior of the church and archive pictures. The full-text of the updated history of the church is also included. Price £40 (inc p&p). |
